Kemer Mountains – Mount Tahtali and the Lycian Way

Mount Tahtali, also known as Tahtali Dag, is the tallest mountain in the Kemer region and part of the Olympos-Beydaglari National Park. This area is crossed by the Lycian Way, one of Turkey’s longest marked hiking routes.

Lycian Way

The Lycian Way stretches around 540 kilometres along the Mediterranean coast, following ancient paths and rural tracks. It is marked with red and white signs and passes through changing elevations — sometimes reaching the sea, other times climbing through pine forests. The western part near Fethiye is more manageable, while the eastern section becomes more challenging. The best time to walk the route is in spring or autumn, from February to May and September to November. Water sources are marked on hiking maps, but during hot months, some may dry up — something to plan for in advance.

Mount Tahtali Height and Scenery

Mount Tahtali stands at 2,365 metres. While not the tallest mountain in Turkey, it is the highest in the Kemer area. The summit gives a wide view over the Taurus Mountains and the coastline below. What makes it special is the surprising greenery even at higher altitudes. At around 1,900 metres, the slopes are dotted with cedar trees and meadows — a rare sight for this height.

Local wildlife includes mountain goats, turtles, foxes and wild boars. Early mornings often reveal goats grazing in the sun among the trees. The rich variety of plants and animals makes Mount Tahtali one of the more unique high-altitude areas in the region.

Cable Car to the Top

Climbing to the summit doesn’t require hiking skills or gear — there’s a modern cable car that takes you straight to the top.
